Looking for a primary school friend via Google, I came across this young man:

Meet Martin Pistorius. No, that's not a fashion statement around his head. I believe it's called a Head Mouse (Smart-NAV). He uses it to communicate. Go figure.
Whenever you wake up and start complaining about a sore toe or a back that hurts, think of the following:
"Martin Pistorius is a 30-year-old South African and a person with a significant disability. As a result of a brain infection at the age of twelve, he suffers from severe motor problems and completely unable to speak. These disabilities resulted in it being presumed that he had the mental age of that of a three-month-old baby. He spent the next 14 years of his life at a daycare centre and occasionally in an institution for the profoundly mentally and physically disabled. In July 2001 he was assessed at the University of Pretoria's Centre for Augmentative and Alternative Communication. The subsequent purchase of a laptop computer with specialized communication software and countless hours of learning empowered him. He has learnt to communicate via computer, became literate, made friends, and found sponsorship for a Power-wheelchair. He has obtained employment at the University of Pretoria's Centre for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (CAAC) and the Meraka Institute at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). He has obtained an Advanced Certificate in Education, with specialization in learners with severe disabilities from the University of Pretoria. This year he has registered with the University of South Africa (UNISA) and is doing a course in Internet and Web Design through correspondence."
The above text was zapped from the site of ortra.com. (If I needed permission for that, please let me know!) The photo above was also affirmatively shopped from there. This text was dated 2005.
I contacted Martin via email, and he has been ever so kind, answering many a stupid question regarding care for the disabled. We have a 15-year old daughter with CP, and it is a constant worry, knowing how to plan her future. Martin has remarkable insight regarding the matter, and is of great help.

Look! He's even met the prez! This pic was zapped from Martin's cyberspot: www.martinp.co.za. Do yourself a favour: Go have a look!
